UBC Pro Tour - Qualifiers/Finals Event

This beginning weekend (Friday and Saturday) will be start of the qualifiers and finals of the 2011 UBC The North Face Pro Tour. After a successful event in New York City, The UBC Pro Tour is gaining recognition fast. UBC recently announced (on their Facebook) that they will be broadcasting the entire event live at UBC.com and RockandIce.com this Saturday.

It is said that climbers like Paul Robinson, Dave Graham, Ty
Landman, Ethan Pringle, Alex Johnson and Angie Payne will be present at the Burlington and Lake Champlain outdoors competition.

The finale will take place on the center stage of the 2011 Nor'easter Sports/Music Festival. Tickets are sold out last time I checked (don't quote me on that because I'm not certain), so the only real way to assist the event is by the watching the Live Stream. Here's a quick look at the competition schedule planned for this weekend :

Friday 9/23
  • Qualifiers: 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Saturday 9/24
  • Semi-finals: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Finals: 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

The blog ClimbingNarc will be covering the 2 day event :

[...] I will actually be in Burlington to cover the event and will have live blogs going throughout the day on both Friday and Saturday. I’ll be doing my best to bring you words and pictures throughout the weekend about not only the comp but also the music festival and whatever else I come across in Burlington, so be sure to check back early and often.

Fred Nicole Still Getting It Done

In an update on sponsor Prana’s website, 41 year-old bouldering legend Fred Nicole provides a brief update on a hard new boulder problem he did earlier this year in Switzerland. The problem, called Le Boa, climbs a “big snake like looking structure” using powerful moves on pockets leading into the existing V11 Mosaik. He had this to say about the difficulty of the line:

Most of the time I don’t grade my boulders anymore, but people are still curious what they could be. On this one my feeling lies around 8c boulder, as it felt as the hardest boulder I ever did on pockets. For sure the hardest thing since “L’isola che non c’é” and reckoning the time spent on it anyway an important line for me.

You can see some footage of the beginning of the problem starting around the 5 minute mark of this video.

Welcome to Upper Rock !

This is the first post of the new climbing blog Upper Rock. I would just like to thank all of you who will be taking the time to read the posts that I will share with you guys. He is a quick Q&A to help you understand the blog and what's to come.

-------

Q - Why make a blog about climbing ?
A - I am fan of climbing since I was 15 years old and since then it has become a part of me. I really want to build a place where people, who are interested in climbing, can find information about the sport.

Q - What will the posts be about on this blog ?
A - I will try to cover the whole climbing community as a whole. So I will probably be posting about news in the climbing world as well as information about people and projects that are related to climbing.

Q - Are you a rock climber yourself ?
A - Yes I am. I have been climbing since I was 15 years old and I still climb to this day.

Q - How frequently will you be posting on this blog ?
A - It all depends on what's happening in the climbing community. I will try to post on every other day but if nothing is going on in the world of climbing I may not post anything that day.

Q - How can we contact you ?
A - There is an image in the sidebar of this blog (the contact route) with clickable links that will direct you to my Facebook Account, My Twitter Account, My RSS Feed, etc. You can also leave comments on my posts and I will get back to you ASAP. But is you wish to contact me directly, leave me an e-mail by clicking the 'Contact Us' tab in the menu.
